If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram you have probably seen that I’ve been working on a mural painting with a bunch of lovely kids last week. Together with the project manager Christoffer Snobl and the artist Benny Cruz and a whole lot of lovely children, we have transformed a gray and gloomy wall into a mural painting filled with joy, life and color!
The project aims to involve children’s thoughts and ideas in the making of a new residential area in a creative way. Together we have been talking and brainstorming a lot. “How do you want your neighborhood to look like? And why? What is missing? What should be in your environment for you to enjoy? What makes you happy?”
The children drew down their dreams and visions on paper. Lovely, happy drawings! We talked about their thoughts all together and after that we prepared and primed the concrete wall. Me and Benny Cruz helped them to sketch up their drawings. Every child got his/her own square to paint on the wall. Some wanted to work alone and some together with others.
At the beginning of the week there were about 10 children who attended the project. Yesterday we were up to 25-30! So much fun! We have been starting at 14:00 every day so the children have time to go to school before. But yesterday when I arrived at 13:30 they were already sitting there, waiting eagerly! “Finally Sanna! We’ve been here for half an hour! Shall we start soon? Can I help you ?!” My heart melted! Such amazing kids and such an amazing week!
Today we have a day off because of the bad weather but in the morning we will be back at 14:00 and continue. Tomorrow is the last day so when we are finish with the mural painting, we will celebrate this fun week with a little barbeque party all together. Time really does fly when you’re having fun! <3
